Competitions PDF Print E-mail

Good, old fashioned competitions can still work a treat.

What can you get out of them?

  • Website traffic, that comes for the competition but sees all the other things your site is offering.
  • Names and email addresses you can promote to, knowing they have some interest in your product.
  • Referrals/pass-ons/viral contacts, where someone tells a friend about the competition.
  • Increased awareness, maybe even a little buzz.

But be aware:

  • Competitions can be a lot of work.
  • People won't respond to weak incentives or badly structured competitions ("prizes" that are disguised purchase offers may do you more harm than good).
  • There are some legal rules you have to abide by.
  • A successful competition starts with a good database of contacts or traffic and builds on it, but competitions are not much good at creating the initial traffic.
